Northumberland's largest town, historically it grew as the major seaport for the export of Northumberland coal.
It is still a busy seaport with regular shipments of plywood and timber from Scandinavia, the Baltic, South America and the Far East.
The north pier has 9 eyecatching windmills - the Blyth Wind Farm - which generate electricity to the National Grid.
To the south of the harbour, South Beach, Blyth has soft golden sands and is a popular beach for bodyboarders. The beach shelters you on blown out north swells. Right and left hand beach break that works on all tides.
